Zion a happy home foundation offers free vocational training to underserved people in Maroua , Far North region of Cameroon

Maroua is the capital of the Far North Region of Cameroon, stretching along the banks of the Ferngo and Kaliao Rivers, in the foothills of the Mandara Mountains. According to the 2020 census the city had 1 007 000 inhabitants and comprises mainly of the Fulbe/Fulani ethnic group.
The Lake Chad crisis that began in 2009 is a complex humanitarian emergency precipitated by climate change, extreme poverty and cross-border conflict.
In a place like Maroua with limited infrastructure, social inequalities, poverty and regular droughts, the crisis has displaced thousands of people, who have been left at risk of extreme violence and with limited access to opportunities such as education, skills training, employment and Health care facilities. Boko Haram insurgence has further emphasized the need for more alternative measures to accommodate and occupy the idle predominantly unskilled population of Maroua and equally promote the creation of more self-employment opportunities. This is the reason why ZION A HAPPY HOME FOUNDATION has opened a Free Vocational Training Centre at Complex Fassao in Doualare Maroua II Community to enable the entire people of Maroua to benefit from free livelihood skills training in the domains of Tailoring, Hairdressing, ICT, Arts and Craft, Electricity, Plumbing, Barbing, Welding Interior and Exterior Decoration.

Notably, this centre also trains refugees from the Republic of Tchad and other neighbouring African countries, ex-convicts to name a few. The expected outcome of this centre is to enable denizens of Maroua and these refugees to become self-reliant and sustainable by extension addressing the problems of idleness, unemployment, poverty, crime wave, hunger and starvation. More so, the centre is intended to train 210 people every year. It is ZAHAHF’s best wish to see that a free Vocational Training centre is opened in all the 10 regions of Cameroon and if possible in all sub-divisions all over the nation. PARTNER and SUPPORT US transform this intention into a life-impacting reality for the needy.

Ongoing construction of an orphanage, help point and vocational training centre for the less privileged

ZION A HAPPY HOME FOUNDATION holds as part of its vision to provide a home, care, education, livelihood skills training, love and psychosocial support for Children without Parents, Children without Families, Street Children, Children without a means of survival, Internally Displaced Persons, Ex-convicts, the Unemployed, the Traumatized, the Old and other underprivileged. By building a facility to suit our vision.
We bring to you one of our ongoing projects, the construction of a 4-floor modern multi-functional storey building at Kombo village Mile 16 – Buea directly behind the reverend sisters convent. Work is currently at the raising of the first floor and this structure is meant to harbour 50 Orphans, 30 Traumatized people and 30 Old people. Yearly, we envisage the training of 200 of these vulnerable children.

This fenced and well-secured edifice will comprise a multipurpose hall, a refectory, 30 sleeping rooms, two big bathing cells, one for the males and the other for the females with a capacity to contain 15 showers

each, 20 toilets, 4 classrooms, 5 offices, a well-equipped dispensary, a trauma centre, an adult home, an orphanage, a free vocational training centre, 2 security post, and enough space for a drying line and recreational facilities. Feeding the mentally deranged and physically disabled in douala, cameroon

Douala is the largest city in Cameroon and home to nearly 20 per cent of the country’s population of about 26 million. It is equally the economic capital of the nation. A good segment of this population constitutes the mentally unsound and physically disabled. Two common problems faced by these marginalized categories of persons are the feeling of being ignored and excluded. As this year was chosen as a year for meaningful life transformation for the underprivileged, our novel five-phased project – The Feeding of street children, street adults, the mentally unstable, physically disabled, prisoners, orphans and the aged, sets out to eliminate these common problems faced by the disabled, by inclusively empowering them with equal access to opportunities and life skills that will make them become more functional and integrated into the society.

Provision of free vocational training to street children, adults, the internally displaced and underprivileged in kumba and its environs

Vocational education or Vocational Education and Training (VET), also called Career and Technical Education (CTE), refers to instructional programs or courses that focus on the skills required for a particular job function or trade and can lead to certification, a diploma or even an associate’s degree.
The meme is a department of the Southwest Region in Cameroon. The department covers an area of 3,105 km² and as of 2019 had a total population of about 800,000. The capital of the department lies at Kumba, and Kumba harbours a massive population of 400,000.

As a result of the ongoing anglophone crisis, this division is one of the most affected and Kumba is a safe host to many who fled from neighbouring villages and suburbs. Most of these displaced people and underserved are idle, poor, unemployed, uneducated and unskilled. That is the reason why just like was done in the Republic of Sierra Leone, ZION A HAPPY HOME FOUNDATION thought it best to provide these categories of less privileged persons with a free Vocational

Training Center to empower them with livelihood skills and make them self-reliant as they struggle to cope. The centre located at the first-storey building directly after the public tap in Kumba Town trains in the respective disciplines; Catering, Tailoring, Hair Dressing, Information Technology, Interior and Exterior Decoration, Glass work, Metal Work, Arts and crafts. Worthy of note is that this centre is equally open to training Ex-convicts.

Zion a Happy Home Foundation serves as a strong source of food to citizens of the war torn Islamic emirate of Afghanistan

Afghanistan, officially the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, is a landlocked country located at the crossroads of Central and South Asia. Referred to as the Heart of Asia, it is bordered by Pakistan to the east and south, Iran to the west, Turkmenistan to the northwest, Uzbekistan to the north, Tajikistan to the northeast, and China to the northeast and east. As of 2021, the nation’s population was 40.2 million, composed mostly of ethnic Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras, and Uzbeks. Kabul is the country’s largest city and serves as its capital.

Afghanistan is now facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The Afghan economy has no cash to pay salaries or buy food. Western aid has been suspended because the Taliban government includes designated terrorists. And millions of Afghans face acute malnutrition and starvation. More so, the destruction of properties and schools has left many Afghans stranded with no shelter, resulting in many of them sleeping in the streets and destroying buildings.

The education of children and the younger population, in general, hangs in the balance. What becomes of them, should the situation be not addressed? Worse is the fact that the Taliban lacks the capacity to manage these monumental challenges, but there is no clear alternative to their rule. These are the reasons why Zion A Happy Home Foundation chose Afghanistan as one of our countries of focus, for the implementation of our Year of Meaningful Life Transformation agenda for street children, adults, orphans the physically disabled, mentally deranged, prisoners, the aged and the Underprivileged.

Distribution of food and soft drinks to the mentally deranged in the republic of Sierra Leone

As stated by the United Nations Populations Fund 2018 report, Sierra Leone is situated on the west coast of Africa, flanked by the Atlantic Ocean and bordered by Liberia and Guinea. It is a country with a young and rapidly growing population of 7,092,113 people. The country is divided into 16 districts with Freetown as its capital and most populated district, harbouring a population of 1.1Million.

Sierra Leone is a low-income country with a gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of $653.
Vitiated with a history of pain that includes a decade-long civil war which ended in 2002, the 2014 Ebola outbreak and recurrent floods which in August 2017 caused a deadly mudslide that left an estimated 1141 dead or missing, it is not a surprise that the nation has a significant number of its citizens suffering from negative mental health outcomes as a result of the traumatic events they experienced. More so, World Health Organization’s 2014 report on alcohol usage and substance misuse in Sierra Leone, emphasizes a remarkably higher usage than the regional average. Consumption of Marijuana and tramadol are of increasing concern and accounts for the worsening of most of these mental disabilities. Most of these unsound people lack proper feeding, are poor people, homeless, unemployed and idle, battered by the negative trend of events they’ve lived. With all these insights, ZION A HAPPY HOME FOUNDATION sees a need to feed these mentally unstable Sierra Leoneaians and equally take sustainable actions towards guaranteeing them much healthier lives.

Zion a Happy Home Foundation feeds the homeless in the Republic of Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is a West African country with a population of just over 7 Million people, with over 52% of this population living below the poverty line according to the UN Human Development Index. The Civil war that lasted over a decade from 1991 to 2002, the Ebola outbreak in 2014 and the 2017 mudslide adversely impacted homelessness in Sierra Leone, by increasing the number of people and families without homes.

More interestingly, the invasion of rebels in 1999 led to the destruction of 5,932 houses in Freetown, Kissy, Wellington, Calaba Town and Allen Town. These unpleasant occurrences have a direct influence on the high rates of unemployment, poverty, hunger, sudden deaths and other issues the nation is faced with today that hampers development. Sadly, most homeless people are poor, unemployed, unskilled and go hungry for days without any certainty to have food any time soon. Some are forced to become street beggars, prostitutes and thieves due to extreme poverty and hunger.

Sierra Leone being one of the four countries earmarked this year for meaningful transformation, ZION A HAPPY HOME FOUNDATION is determined to significantly reduce hunger in the west African nation with our Four phased novel project – the Feeding of street children, orphans, adults, the homeless, the mentally deranged, the physically disabled, prisoners, juvenile deliquent and the impoverished. Using the first phase of this project as a means of identifying the target population we need to empower, food and soft drinks was distributed to a good number of homeless people in the streets and environs of Freetown. Support us take sustainable actions aimed at absorbing off the streets these homeless people and equipping them with livelihood skills, education, medical and psychosocial support to guarantee them much better lives than before.

Fighting hunger amongst children and the underprivileged in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

The Sustainable Development Goals number 1, 2 and 3 advocate for No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good health and Well-being. Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a country in South Asia. It is the world’s fifth-most populous country, with a population of almost 242 million, and has the world’s second-largest Muslim population. This country has been the victim of natural disasters and chronic political and economic turmoil. These volatile conditions have led to high rates of poverty and hunger in the country.

In Pakistan, about 20% of the population is undernourished, equating to nearly 40 million people who are not getting enough nutrients on a daily basis. This is nearly double the percentage of people worldwide who are undernourished. Almost a quarter of Pakistanis live below the poverty line. These high rates of poverty, undernutrition and malnutrition have led to infant mortality and stunting. 38% of Pakistani children under the age of five suffer stunting. In some regions, the percentage of children who experience stunting is nearly 50%. The 2019 United Nations evaluation report on Maternal and Child Stunting reduction, holds that Pakistani children experience some of the highest stunting rates in the

world. Guided by this worrisome information, ZION A HAPPY HOME FOUNDATION is determined to assist this nation in combating hunger and its related problems, especially amongst children and the underprivileged. How? By providing monthly food supplies and equally initiating free livelihood skills training schemes to promote self-employment and financially empower the less privileged.

Zion a happy home foundation tackles hunger by offering food to physically disabled persons in Ngueli, home town of many refugees in the Republic of Tchad

The Tchad Republic has a population of over 16 million people, half of whom live below the poverty line, according to the World Bank. The nation which is the world’s third least-developed country is also weighed down by drought and floods, conflict with the militant group Boko Haram, inter-tribal wars and the influx of over 400,000 refugees fleeing the Sudan, Nigeria, Cameroon and the Central African Republic. Given the correlation between poverty and physical disability, people with physical disabilities are among the most vulnerable people in Chad. This is because there exists a negative belief about physical disabilities in the country and it has led to the physically disabled being called “snake people” since they face difficulties in moving and so crawl on the ground. This derogatory impression has paved the way for exclusion, marginalization, deprivation of human rights and untold suffering in the lives of these people. Most of them die of hunger and starvation.

With actions underway towards attaining the sustainable development goals number 2, 10 and 3 that advocate for zero hunger, reduced inequalities, good health and well-being, ZION A HAPPY HOME FOUNDATION is particularly committed to feeding the hungry, physically disabled and ensuring they are food sufficient in Ngueli in particular and the TCHAD REPUBLIC in general. Ngueli is a neighbourhood in N’Djamena situated west of Digangali, and also west of Complexe Khassam. It shares borders with Kousseri and is home to many refugees from Cameroon.

Feeding of street children in Maroua and Douala

As children roam the streets in search of shelter, food and other basic needs, their future hangs in the balance. Understanding the plight of street children highlights the need for immediate design and implementation of intervention strategies to prevent children from living on the streets and assist those who have become street children.
Street children have been identified by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as children in difficult circumstances and their rights and welfare remain a growing concern to both national and international bodies. The existing estimates by UNICEF suggested that there are tens of millions of street-based children, and this number continues to rise in low- and middle-income countries because of increased urbanisation, health challenges of parents, the HIV epidemic, migration and global population growth.

A street child is a young person, under the age of fifteen, who lives and sleeps on the streets, whose family ties are broken and who can’t or won’t return home. Some end up sleeping in the streets with their poor parents because they have no home nor money to afford to take care of them and quite often they are left with no choice but to either become beggars or criminals. Most often street children live in the streets without their families as is rampant in Maroua, Douala and many other towns and regions in Cameroon. Each child has to learn how to survive

alone since no adult takes responsibility for them. Often they are very young and completely ignored by their families. These children don’t like to be called “street children”, but they have no option but bear the worry of some name tag as they struggle to survive. These great destinies are always lacking education, love, proper care and medical attention. Zion A Happy Home Foundation believes that if we can absorb off the streets these children and provide them with what they lack, then our society is guaranteed a responsible young generation to lead tomorrow. We urge you to join us to take collective meaningful action to meet the needs of these under-resourced children.

Feeding of prisoners at the New Bell central prison in Douala, capital of the Littoral region of the Republic of Cameroon

The New Bell Central Prison founded in 1902 in Douala is the main prison in Cameroon’s economic capital and Littoral Region. It is a mixed prison, however, the quarters for men, women and children are separated. This facility harbours over 4000 detainees. The month of February was dedicated to the feeding of prisoners in Douala. The 27th of February 2022 happened to be the last Sunday of the month and as our adopted culture was the day for the feeding of prisoners to be carried out. A team headed by the founder of Zion A Happy Home Foundation made it to the New Bell Central Prison with cooked food in packs, drinks, fruits and toiletries to be distributed to 100 detainees for a start as a way of familiarizing with them, reminding them that they are not forgotten, reassuring them they still have a place in the society despite being detained and promising them we shall work in synergy to
the society and live much better and responsible lives when they leave prison.
However, we regret to inform you that because it is a law at the prison that visitors do not take pictures with inmates, we had to obey. So, attached are a few pictures of the successful event.

Zion a Happy Home Foundation positively responds to the long existing water problems in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, specifically in the Khairpur district

According to www.dawn.com, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a country located in Southern Asia with an estimated population of 225.2Million people. Khairpur is a district in the Pakistani province of Sindh in the Sukkur Division. At the 2017 census, it was the fifth most populated district in the province with 2.4 million inhabitants. Despite Pakistan having more glaciers than anywhere else in the world and its location in the Indus River Basin, Pakistan is at risk of acute water scarcity. Its surface and groundwater sources are both increasingly stressed and severe drought conditions persist in parts of the country due to a lack of rainfall. Water is severely polluted by human, agricultural and industrial waste.
In Khairpur like in other parts of Pakistan, there exist very limited water sources. Worse is the fact that these sources are often polluted and unclean. Consequently, inhabitants are forced to trek very long distances just in search of portable water.

The scourging effects of desertification such as extreme droughts and water scarcity make life unbearable for these inhabitants.
Some even die due to thirst. Children are at high risk of mortality because of inadequate sanitation which can lead to diarrheal diseases such as Cholera, typhoid fever and other waterborne diseases.
In response to the long prevailing water crisis suffered in Khairpur district and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in general, Zion A Happy Home Foundation has provided a modern water source as a sustainable solution to help substitute for the existing unclean polluted water sources, to shorten the long distances Khairpur inhabitants travel in search of water and reduce the possible prevalence of diarrheal diseases brought about by inadequate sanitation. We intend to do more for other regions in Pakistan with the belief that the water crisis can be solved if we take collective sustainable actions to this effect.

2021/2022 back to school scheme for the underprivileged in Sierra Leone

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals number 4 and 10 advocate for Quality Education for all and Reduced Inequalities worldwide.
According to Statistics Sierra Leone (SSL), October 2017 publication with the assistance of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Sierra Leone 2015 Population and housing census, Thematic Report on Education and Literacy states that Sierra Leone has a national illiteracy rate of 48.1%. Out of this 48.1% rural areas record the highest rates of 62.2 % while urban areas 29.8%.
In Sierra Leone just like in Cameroon, this project was launched on the same day Saturday the 4th of September 2021, bringing together a large number of children of school-going age who have been deprived of access to quality education at the Zion A Happy Home Foundation Free Vocational Training Centre Hall at Kaningo, Juba. This underserved category, characterized by war and mudslide surviving children, flood survivors, Ebola and Coronavirus survivors, rape victims, children who suffered amputation, children of impoverished amputee parents as well as orphans, street children and other special needs youths, made this 2nd edition of our back to school scheme for the underprivileged in Sierra leone a unique life empowering activity.
The one-of-its-kind event was intended to prioritize and enable access to quality education for these under-resourced children.
Gifts donated to them comprised exercise books, ledgers, school bags, water bottles, umbrellas, school shoes, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, sharpeners, math sets, nose masks, kind words of motivation and encouragement as well as pledges to support them more in the future. The expressions of happiness via shouts of joy hand clapping and singing could tell it all what this gesture of goodwill meant to these disadvantaged young ones and their families.

Zion a Happy Home Foundation free vocational training center for the underprivileged at Kaningo Juba Sierra Leone graduates 1st batch of students

On Saturday the 7th of August 2021, Zion A Happy Home Foundation Free Vocational Training Centre For The Underprivileged, graduated its first batch of students. These students were enrolled for training during the 2020/2021 academic year in tailoring, ICT, Hairdressing, barbing, decoration, catering, and arts and craft disciplines respectively.

The ceremony which took place at the conference centre of the institution was characterized by so much euphoria as it rallied a multitude of Sierra Leoneans from far and wide who happily came to salute the great initiative undertaken by Zion A Happy Home Foundation to put an end to poverty and the sufferings of poor Sierra Leonean individuals and communities, by empowering them. At the same time, celebrate the successful end of training for their fellow compatriots.
While speaking at the event, keynote speaker Rev. James Kamara urged the graduates to make the best out of the training received, be committed to contributing positively to the growth of their society, ensure to earn an honest living and be supportive of their families.

As Zion A Happy Home Foundation Country Director for Sierra Leone, Evangelist Ngeya Sao handed certificates to the graduates, he advised them to believe in themselves and chase their dreams in truth, justice and non-violence. Also, he seized the opportunity to sensitize all present about the vision of Zion A Happy Home Foundation to sustainably empower and better the lives of more Sierra Leoneans through the Free Vocational Training Centre and other upcoming initiatives.

Zion A Happy Home Foundation expresses sincere gratitude to the government of Sierra Leone for enabling our mission to come to the realisation, all community partners, and other stakeholders, whose commitment, supports and sacrifice were vital in ensuring these first batch of students acquire the best of skill development through training. A memory they will live to cherish forever.
